Audio Audition

Find the track that makes the picture click.

Audio Audition is a browser workspace for trying uploaded music or YouTube references against picture, making light timing and mix adjustments, and sharing the options with the people choosing.

Built for

The people responsible for this part of the work.

For directors, editors, agency creatives, clients, producers, music supervisors, composers, and other collaborators choosing reference or working music for an edit.

The current workflow

A central creative decision is often limited to whoever can operate the timeline.

Trying music properly against picture usually means asking an editor to load each track into an NLE. Playing a video and a music app side by side is lighter, but repeated cueing, timing, level changes, and dialogue make it awkward almost immediately.

Why purpose-built

This is the initial feeling-out process, made easy to join.

Audio Audition is for the moment when the team needs to know whether a track feels right. It offers enough timing and rough-mix control to make a fair comparison without pretending to replace the detailed music edit that belongs in an NLE.

What it helps you do

A focused system for the actual task.

01

Try options quickly and in sync

Move among tracks without repeatedly resetting a separate video player. Set useful music and picture start points and adjust rough playback levels for each option.

02

Use the sources the project has

Upload WAV, AIFF, MP3, and other working music files from a supervisor or composer, or search YouTube when the team is exploring a reference.

03

Keep dialogue when it matters

Start with an edit that already contains music and use AI-assisted stem separation to create a dialogue-focused version before trying replacement tracks.

04

Carry the shortlist through the project

Stack new picture versions in the same session, arrange the shared running order, give tracks private star ratings, and copy a text summary when you choose to discuss them elsewhere.

After your first session

Leave with something useful.

Put an edit in the browser, try several tracks against it, and leave with a credible shortlist that directors, editors, producers, agency creatives, or clients can discuss together.

Clear boundaries

What it does not try to be.

  • Audio Audition is not an NLE, music editor, or final-mixing environment.
  • It does not perform detailed chopping, restructuring, time stretching, automation, or finishing of a track.
  • AI dialogue separation can create artifacts and should not be described as a perfect dialogue stem.
  • Trying a YouTube reference does not grant synchronization, master-use, publishing, or any other music rights.

Questions, answered

The practical details before you begin.

Does Audio Audition replace the editor or the NLE?

No. It helps a wider group compare the feel of music against picture. Detailed restructuring, timing, mixing, and finishing still belong with the editor, music editor, or mixer in professional timeline software.

Where can the music options come from?

You can upload working audio files supplied by a music supervisor, composer, label, or teammate, or use YouTube search to explore a reference track in context.

Can other people join the audition?

Yes. A shared project link lets collaborators listen and contribute without first becoming account administrators. The running order is shared; each person's star ratings remain private unless they deliberately copy and share them.

Does trying a YouTube track mean we can use it?

No. YouTube search is for creative reference and comparison. Any commercial use still requires the appropriate synchronization, master-use, publishing, and other clearances for that music.
